A letter of invitation, a CD containing a sample application and instructions will be mailed to the presidents of each of the institutions invited to nominate candidates by August. Each institution will hold an internal selection process to select a nominee. An institutional representative should notify the Program Office of the selected nominee's name via email to Silvia Montano at montano@thecenter.ucsf.edu. The chosen nominee should also email Silvia Montano at montano@thecenter.ucsf.edu to request a Username and Password for the electronic application. Only electronically submitted applications will be accepted. The application deadline is 5pm, November 1, 2008.

Applications will be reviewed by the Program's National Advisory Committee. The Committee will make recommendations to the Board of Directors of The Pew Charitable Trusts, who will review the participants in the class of the 2009 Pew Scholars in the Biomedical Sciences. Candidates will be notified by April 2009 if they have been recommended to the Pew Board. A formal announcement of the final decision will be made in June 2008. Funds will be granted to the sponsoring institutions in July 2009.

Written or verbal critiques of unsuccessful applications will not be provided.
